Who Can Join?

1

Applicants should have 8 years working as Gaffer, Rigging Gaffer, Console Programmer or Fixture Supervisor on quality projects.

2

Applicants should have 10 years in cinema lighting but experience in Episodic and Live Event may be considered.

3

Applicants will need to provide 3 references from professionals who are respected in the lighting industry. ICLS members preferred.

4

Applicants will be expected to participate, mentor, learn and share knowledge with other members.

The International Cinema Lighting Society (ICLS) is a global non-profit membership organization of Gaffers, Rigging Gaffers, Console Programmers, and Fixture Supervisors dedicated to education, knowledge sharing, networking and socializing among cinematic lighting professionals around the world. We seek to build our collective knowledge base, connect lighting communities, and promote diversity and inclusivity in set lighting departments.

 

The ICLS has six types of member categories: Full Members, Associate Members, Advisory Members, Observer Members, Aspirant Members, and Corporate Members. We accept applications for Full Membership and Associate Membership on this website. Whereas, Observer and Advisory Membership is by invitation only. While, Aspirant and Corporate Membership requires a different application process. For more information about each membership category please visit the relevant pages.

The primary goals of our Society are Learning, Mentoring, Sharing and Networking, and these are accomplished in both categories of membership. An overview of the qualifications and benefits of each type of membership are explained in their respective pages. Both memberships will give you access to knowledge and the opportunity to network with other members who can assist you with your career.

 

The purpose of the application is to give us insights into whether you qualify professionally and personally to become a member of our Society. It does this by capturing contact information, educational and professional achievements, reference verification, and your permission to process the application.

The application has 5 sections focused on who you are and your experience in Set Lighting. It is designed give us insight into which category of individual membership you qualify: Full Member or Associate Member.

Applications are handled by the Membership Committee. The Committee vets each application to determine if a candidate qualifies professionally and personally for membership as well as which membership category (Full or Associate) is most suitable for them. Being a non-profit organization, we have divided our memberships into three Tiers. Tier 1 is for individuals who reside in developed countries, Tier 2 is for individuals who reside in developing countries, and Tier 3 is for individuals who reside in under developed countries. The annual membership fee for Full Members is as follow: Tier 1 = $250.00 (USD), Tier 2 = $150.00 (USD), and Tier 3 = $ 75.00 (USD). Whereas, the annual membership fee for Associate Members is as follow: Tier 1 = $200.00 (USD), Tier 2 = $120.00 (USD), and Tier 3 = $ 60.00 (USD). The Membership Committee considers each application carefully with regard to the criteria required for Full or Associate Membership. Based on the information provided in an application, the information available online, and the feedback from the references and others familiar with the applicant, the Committee at its sole discretion may offer a different category of membership than what was applied for.
